Are you ready to take the first step towards self-discovery and/or healing? I meet the client where he or she is at, and together we create collaborative goals based on each client’s individual needs. My theoretical counseling philosophy is focused towards unconditional positive regard and empathy toward the client. I also prefer using Narrative Therapy theories such as the view that the problem is separate from the person; that is the belief that the client is not the problem, yet the problem is the problem. Further, I also utilize Narrative Therapy Counseling Techniques such as Journaling, Re-storying and Life Time Lines.

I have previous experience working in psychological and counseling settings such as: Private Practice, School Psychology, Community Mental Health Agencies, Therapeutic Recreation and Animal Assisted Therapy Programs. Manal Manal Abukishk, Ed.D., LPC
Licensed in Virginia as a Clinical Mental Health Professional

I have over 10 years clinical experience providing therapy and psychological evaluations to culturally diverse populations of children, adolescents and adults. I am especially interested in treating people with depression, mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, PTSD and personality disorders. I do counseling on parenting, child & adolescent (ADHD, Learning and developmental disabilities), loss & grief, career couching and cultural issues.

My therapeutic approach is eclectic and designed to meet the specific needs and issues of my clients. I utilize insight oriented therapy, cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches. My main goal is not only assisting clients to gain insight into their problems but also empowering them to make the desired changes they seek to make in their lives. Through empathy and close collaboration with clients, I help them to understand core emotions and conflicts which impede their ability to make changes so they can live to their fullest potential. I feel that anxiety underlies most of our behaviors and life decisions. In my therapy sessions, I am inclined to put a great emphasis on investigating, along with client, the origins of their fears until they feel relief and free. As an active and dynamic therapist, my client and I work hard together to feel relief from symptoms in short period of time. In addition, I have broad multicultural experience and am fluent in Arabic, English and Hebrew.
